Proper English steel

The Raleigh DL-1 is the bike that put the world on two wheels — and this one is a legitimate example in small, finished in classic black with full chrome trim. It came to us from a retired rider in Oro Valley who bought it in England in the 1970s and brought it back with him. The Sturmey-Archer AW 3-speed hub is the heart of this machine: built like a watch, virtually indestructible, and still shifts the way it's supposed to. Rod brakes, upright geometry, and a full chaincase keep everything functional and fender-clean.

We overhauled the Sturmey-Archer hub (fresh grease, indicator adjusted, new cable), cleaned and adjusted the rod brake linkages with new brake blocks front and rear, repacked the wheel bearings, and polished the chrome. The original Brooks saddle has significant patina but no cracks and is well on its way to perfectly broken in. This is a bike for someone who appreciates that things were built differently once.
